A practical charging routine for weekdays – and early starts

With a properly configured home charger, you need not make a new decision every evening. Plug in, let the system follow the usual routine and open the app when your needs change. Convenience needs both a sound default and knowing what to change on an unusual day.

We illustrate this through a few Zaptec app features in one household, covering both an ordinary weekday and an unexpected early departure.

One charger, one familiar routine

Our example uses one Zaptec Go for the family car. There is no Zaptec Sense or external energy controller. The owner normally arrives in the evening, leaves at seven and charges in a proven time window.

In the app, they always select the right device first—particularly important if they also have workplace-charger access. Visible devices and actions depend on account permissions (Zaptec app overview).

The daily routine is simple: plug in and confirm the expected state. There is no need to review every setting because the operating mode and expected start time are known.

A schedule removes the need to start manually every day

With Zaptec Scheduled Charging, the selected window determines when the car may charge. The manufacturer says start and end times are set in the app (Scheduling and starting).

The household uses its own verified window, so each plug-in needs no manual start. A window works only if available power can deliver the required energy within it.

Waiting may be the intended state: the charger can be online and car connected before charging begins. Review this with the installer on day one.

Thursday brings an earlier departure

The family must leave earlier on Thursday. When plugging in that evening, they open the app because the usual window may be too short.

Zaptec says charging outside the schedule requires selecting Default Charging (Overriding the schedule). The owner switches mode and then confirms charging actually started.

The other half of an exception is restoring the routine. After the unusual day, they reselect the normal schedule and check the active mode, avoiding an accidental change lasting for weeks.

If the car also has a schedule, review it too. The charger's permitted period and the car's request jointly influence the start.

A previously selected current limit is part of the routine

You may deliberately have chosen a lower current. A Zaptec Go owner can reduce current within the installer-defined range, and that value persists for later sessions (Setting Go charging current).

That may suit a car parked for a long time. Before an early start, know what remains configured. Add a note explaining why the manual limit was chosen and when to revisit it.

The app's maximum remains within installation limits. Wanting a faster charge cannot make the electrical connection or car accept more.

Cable storage is also a convenience choice

If you normally leave the cable attached, there is less to do each evening. Socketed Zaptec units can use the cable-lock setting; changing it requires owner access, an online device and connected cable (Managing the cable lock).

For Thursday's longer trip, you may want the same cable in the car. Practise releasing it before departure. Releasing the charger-side lock and the car connector can be separate actions.

The familiar setting is convenient and the exception should be deliberate. A permanently locked cable remains a separate cable plugged into a socketed charger.

With Sense or external control, start from the combined operation

Our example uses simple standalone scheduling. With Sense or external energy management, remain in the supported mode for that system. The cited schedule guide says its Scheduled Charging mode disables automatic Sense regulation (How the modes interact).

Test an early departure with the installer or integrator. Record where you change the need, how you verify the result and how you restore normal operation.
