EV charger as an investment: when does it pay off?

When someone buys an electric car, they sooner or later face the question of home charging. The first reaction is often that installing a wall charger is an “expensive chore.” But is that really the case? Let’s look at how you should view an EV charger: as an investment .

Let's take a typical example: the cost of a 7.4 kW charging device and installation is approximately 250–400 thousand forints. If you charge your car at home on a daily basis, compared to public chargers, you can save 10–20 thousand forints per month. This is 120–240 thousand forints per year.

The payback period is typically 1.5–3 years , but if you combine it with a solar system, it can be even shorter. Moreover, it is not only a financial advantage: you also gain time and convenience. You don’t have to look for a charger, wait in line, or browse apps – you just get home and plug it in.

Another aspect: increased property value . Having your own EV charger increases the value and marketability of the property – especially if the buyer also uses an electric car. Real estate ads now specifically highlight if “wall charger installed”.
